Reverse osmosis (RO) is widely used for water purification. However, RO produces around 30% of the inlet water as reject water. This reject water contains high TDS including dissolved silica compounds. It is difficult to recycle the water with secondary RO treatment. The techniques available including but not limited to electro-coagulation, electro-dialysis are very costly and require high maintenance. There is a need for an efficient technique to remove dissolved silica in RO reject water for further use.
